High School Wrestling Banquet

This years wrestling banquet will be held Sunday March 21st at 5:00 pm at the multi purpose room at the YMCA. All JV and varsity families are invited along with this years 6th graders. An additional e-mail is to follow regarding ticket prices for the meal. As always the wrestlers are free. Please RSVP with your number attending, including the wrestler. Hope to see you all there!!!!!!!!!!

NYWA Qualifiers

Youth Wrestling Parents,

The first NYWA district qualifier will be in Minneota this Friday night. As Gary Erbes mentioned in his previous email, the club will pay for the entry fee for this tournament. There will be a sheet for you to sign that is for Marshall wrestlers only. You need to sign your wrestlers name on that sheet in order for the club to pay for the entry fee. Keep in mind you will have to purchase insurance ,either there or on line, through NYWA. This insurance cost $14 at Minneota or $12 on line. You can't wrestle without it. It covers all NYWA tournaments (districts, regions, team regions, state, and team state). Last year we had over 30 wrestlers compete in the NYWA district tournament, hopefully we have more this year. All Members Welcome! MAWA Board Meeting

There will be a board meeting Sunday the 14^th at the Wooden Nickel at 6 pm. We need to discuss our youth tournament and start thinking about the budget for next year. Coach Justin is going to layout the varsity season for us with a wish list for our entire program to make it better. We need everyone to come to the meeting to get in on this discussion. We will go over our finances in detail to aid in our fundraising goals and budget plans and the like for the next season. I encourage all of you to bring some other people to the meeting, we will be electing officers for the following season and need to some fresh faces with new ideas to keep our club moving in the right direction. If you know some people that want to help, please contact them and get them to start coming to the meetings. We elect new officers in June so that is not to far away and we would like to see some new blood get into the mix as officers or board members. I will be putting the agenda together this week for the meeting. If you have ideas on what to include in the agenda please email them to me. Thank You MAWA Parents, Coaches and Wrestlers!

I would like to give a big thank you to all wrestling parents, wrestlers and coaches for the hard work today at the youth tournament. The tournament ran very smoothly and were out of there at a reasonable time. We had somewhere around 280 wrestlers compete, a little lower than what we have had in the past but yet a very successful tournament. Again, thanks to everyone.

Attention MAWA Members

Wrestling Parents,

Wrestling season at all levels is in full swing and soon the Marshall Area Wrestling Association will be hosting it's youth wrestling tournament on February 28. Work assignments for the 2010 AAU District Championships held in Marshall, Jan. 10th, can be accessed in the Youth or Varsity/JV sections of this website.

As you all know these youth tournaments are the wrestling clubs biggest fundraisers. We have a reputation in Marshall of holding the best run, and most competitive tournaments in the area. But that is only possible with the help of parents and coaches.

I have plenty of help scheduled for each work station so no one should be overworked. If you are new to the club and are not sure what you need to do, contact the chairperson at that station and he/she will fill you in. Our next home youth wrestling tournament is the Marshall Junior Open and that is scheduled for Feb. 28th at the RA Facility at SMSU. If you are not on the AAU tournament work schedule you will be listed on the Marshall Junior Open schedule which will be coming out in mid Feb. I will try to spread the work duties out as much as possible especially for the newcomers to the club.

As for all tournaments a lot of work goes into setup and tear down. We will need as many people to be at the Middle School at 8:00 Sunday morning to help roll out mats, set up tables and chairs, and whatever else needs to be done prior to the tournament. Also, we will need as many people as possible to tear down everything and clean around the bleachers, etc. The more help we have the sooner we get out of there.

Support the COOP! Attend the School Board Meeting!

To all wrestling families,

We need your support on Monday night the 16^th of November at the junior high school to come and show your wrestling pride. The school board is making the decision about the COOP and if they will allow your teammates from outside our school district to continue on with us. Please come and show your teammates the support that they deserve. I would ask you to come in some sort of wrestling apparel. The room is not a large one from what I understand, but lets get as many people there as we can. I will make contact with coach Bouwman and make sure that the practice kids can be there. The meeting is at 5:30 on Monday in the District office, 401 South Saratoga Street (enter on the back side of the Middle School). Please come early so they can see the support we have in our wrestling program. Any questions please feel free to call or email me.

Varsity/JV Captain's Practice

Starts Monday, November 2 through Thursday, November 19. Meet in the wrestling room after school Monday through Thursday.

High School Weight Certifications

IMPORTANT! Skin fold measuring will be on Monday, November 30 during practice, all wrestlers are required to attend. Weight certification will be on Tuesday December 1, all wrestlers need to attend with a parent or quardian in order to sign off the paper work with the physician and myself.
The results are due to the MSHSL by Thursday December 3 in order for your wrestler to be eligible to wrestle for the season.

WANTED: Your gently used wrestling gear!

Does anyone have old shoes, head gear, singlets, or t-shirts that you would like to donate back to the wrestling club?? We are looking for items to pass along to the youth kids. We would sell these items to these kids and the proceeds go back to the club. If anyone has items that they would like to donate please get them to myself or Al Roth before registration. UDATED! Thank you volunteers! Easy Money Fundraiser! No sales!

Pat yourselves on the back for doing an awesome job on our Papa Johns fundraiser. All the help and hard work are why companies ask us to do things like this. We will discuss how everything went at the next board meeting. I hope no one had any problems with the amount of time it took to do their own route. If most of the comments are positive we will probably do this again. Thanks again for all your help.

We are doing a fundraiser with Papa Johns. Our club will be hanging flyers on doors throughout the city of Marshall . I realize this is kind of late notice, but we will have one week from this Saturday, September 26 to complete this task. All wrestlers will be assigned an area of the city that they will need to cover. Our club is being paid to do this. We need to do this in a timely fashion or we will not be asked to help out again. Joanna Holland will be dividing the map of the city up and assigning areas to everyone. The varsity and jv and other middle school kids (5^th & 6^th) graders are helping also. We should have between 30 and 40 kids to help do this. The fliers will be hung on the door knobs and that is it. NO SALES. Joanna will be at H&R Block on Saturday morning the 26^th from 8am to 10:30am or 1:30pm - 3:30pm or by appointment (507-829-1859) so you can pick up the fliers and get started if you choose to do so at that time. Joanna will be available by phone if you cannot make this time. Joanna’s # is 507 829 1859. Any questions about anything on this needs to be done with Joanna or myself.

Thank You Sounds of Summer Volunteers!

To All,

A big thank you to all that helped out with the parade on Saturday. Thanks for all the coolers and wagons and the Moms for making signs to help with this event. The monies that we raise from our fundraisers goes back to help pay for things that the school does not including camps and bus upgrades. The girl scouts cut into our water sales a little bit, but we still had a pretty good day. We could have used some more help from the older kids.
